    High street fashion for Madonna

    By Andrea Clarke
SUPERSTAR Madonna has been dressed by some of the world’s top designers but for her Confessions World Tour only H&M would do.
The international fashion retailer agreed to provide a complete wardrobe for Madonna and her "touring family" as part of a long term agreement that includes an upcoming advertising campaign between H&M and the Material Girl.
The singer and her entire 150 person team was given the chance to choose from H&M's latest collection which included Victorian romantics, British classics and couture inspired pieces, and they chose clothes that reflected their own individual styles.
With H&M’s versatility and up-to the-minute fashion, it seemed an ideal combination for the musicians, dancers, makeup artists, management and crew members of Team Madonna to have the opportunity to find exactly what they needed once they got offstage.
Also, Madonna worked with H&M designers to create a unique track suit to wear while she's on the road. The tracksuit comes in black, white and purple.
H&M's head of design, Margareta van den Bosch was delighted to work with the Queen of Pop.
"We are pleased to be able to offer this track suit to our customers by mid-August”, she said.
And the company have recently launched their autumn collection.
Built around four trends, H&M’s autumn season style is mix and match for a
    complete look.
The collection is inspired by retro couture - chic, coordinated, romanticism with reference from the turn of the century.
This season H&M are paying homage to the classics of the classics with British style tailoring and knitwear updated in unexpected materials and colour combinations.
And a tribute to the longevity of Madonna the sleek rock style is back with an 1980's music twist.

IRISH SINGER/SONGWRITER TO PLAY IN HAUNTED CASTLE

    By Paul Ainsworth
UNIQUE Dublin singer/songwriter Susan Bluechild is set to headline a ghoulishly entertaining evening this Halloween season, as she performs in a haunted castle.
Susan and her backing band will take the extraordinary step of playing for the ghostly residents of Charleville Castle, Co Offaly, as part of a Fright-Night Ball on Sunday October 29.
Amazing Events are hosting the night in order to raise funds for its restoration project, and the fancy-dress event will also feature a line up of spooky fun including magicians, comedians, DJs, prizes for best costume and Tarot card readings.
The Irish chart-topping singer is no stranger to the mysterious world of the occult, as alongside recording her debut album Non Stop To Venus, she also found time to be an astrologer, and regularly supported herself during her early career by foreseeing people’s fates through the ancient art of the Tarot.
Her debut single Summer Girls was a hit on Irish radio in 2002, but it took until this year before her first album hit the shelves, and she is now gaining the recognition that she deserves.
Susan’s rock and pop influenced music has been described as a cross between Debbie Harry and Madonna, with the ethereal kookiness of Kate Bush thrown in for good measure, and she has recently taken the MySpace road to international acclaim a la Lilly Allen and Lady Sovereign.
The Internet community phenomenon, which has launched the careers of a new generation of music stars, has seen Susan win over fans as far away as New Zealand and Hawaii, while her home-grown fan base looks set to rise even further as Non Stop To Venus wedges itself firmly in the chart and looks set to become Irish album of the year.
Fans who are brave enough to see Susan perform at the Halloween Fright-Night Ball in the haunted venue, can get tickets by making a €100 donation to the Charleville Castle Restoration Project at www.freewebs.com/halloweenfrightnight.

    HOFF'TASTIC !!

    By Ryan Kennedy
In case you haven’t noticed, there’s a Hoff-ful lot of commotion on the streets of Belfast.
For some strange reason, chest hair is up 75% and even the most prominent members of Belfast’s social scene have been spotted running in slow motion in tight leather trousers and talking to their cars. This can mean only one thing.
THE RETURN OF THE HOFF! PRAISE HOFF!
That’s right. David Hasselhoff is back. Those genius Pipex ads have wetted out appetites, but now – oh glory days - the crimped crooner has Hoffed out a Hoffing new single, celebrating the second coming of Knight Rider and everything that made him a Hoffing legend.
Before you go off in a Hoff, check out the German lady’s favourite strutting his stuff in his brand new video Jump in my Car!
Radio one are already on the warpath to Hoff this classic in the making straight to number one, and the Belfast public are not too shy about mouthing Hoff about it.
Currently everyone here at FAME has donned their tight red lifeguard shorts and are fighting over the curling irons – but the mullet wars do not stop here – this Sunday will decide once and for Hoff just how many are willing to accept the Hoff as their King. To the infidels who scoff the Hoff, prepare to meet thy doom.
    HOFF FOREVER!

    VINYL is the new BLACK!

    By Paul Ainsworth

IT predates both CDs and Minidiscs, and was around before the Ipod was even a twinkle in the eye of Apple. Yet despite being considered banished to the record collection of history, the humble vinyl format is spinning its way back into the affection of music lovers everywhere.
Sales of vinyl records have risen to over one million each year, with their popularity set to rise further thanks to a curious renaissance sparked by the New Wave rock bands currently demanding their singles to be released as vinyl records alongside their smaller, portable cousin: the once all conquering CD.
Throughout the late eighties and into the nineties, vinyl was hooked up to the life-support machine of the dance DJ, with releases dribbling through in the form of white-label releases to stars such as Pete Tong and Carl Cox.
After mixing the records in the clubs, they would then profit by releasing mix albums on CD format, meaning that the vinyl industry was almost non-existent outside the niche DJ market.
Meanwhile, as far as new rock music was concerned, vinyl was something you put on your kitchen floor.
As technology leaped and bounded into the noughties, and the concept of MP3 was introduced, it seemed like the end was truly in sight for old vinyl.
Even the DJs began hooking their mixers up to their laptops, meaning they no longer had to lug huge record boxes everywhere they performed, after all, one MP3 only weighs a fraction of a gigabyte.
Yet perhaps out of a sense of nostalgia, or even a desire to honour its great legacy, bands such as Kasabian, Razorlight and The Fratellis are resurrecting the format, to the extent that over 70 per cent of new single releases today are available as shiny black plastic.
Keith Howie, Regional Manager of HMV in Northern Ireland said: “While record sales are still considered to be a niche market comprised of audiophiles, collectors and DJs, their popularity is undoubtedly growing amongst the younger generation.
“If you walk into any of our stores today, you will have the opportunity to choose the format that suits you best”.

U2 and ROBBIE IN TOP 10 FUNERAL CHART!

    By Andrea Clarke

IRISH rockers U2 have made it into the top 10 yet again, only this time it’s the funeral chart.
The band’s 1987 hit With or Without You was ranked number seven in the UK and Northern Ireland’s most requested songs to be played at funerals and services of remembrance.
Fellow Irishman, singer Daniel O’Donnell came in at number 11 for his version of the classic ballad Danny Boy.
The research was undertaken in July 2006 by The Bereavement Register, a free consumer service which removes names and addresses of people who have passed away from companies’ databases to reduce junk mail addressed to the deceased.
5,000 consumer interviews conducted by email and telephone in the UK and Northern Ireland, and named Goodbye my Lover, by James Blunt as the most requested song to be played at funerals. Robbie William’s Angels, a popular choice in 2005 came in at number two.
The survey also uncovered some interesting music choices for final goodbyes.
Included in the top 20 were I Want to Live Forever from the musical Fame, Reach for the Stars by S Club 7 and the song made famous by the 1980s movie, Dirty Dancing, I’ve Had the Time of My Life performed by Jennifer Warnes and Bill Medley.
The research also revealed that over half of people (51per cent) request a specific song to be played at their funeral before they die and 79 per cent of people have discussed with friends and family the songs they would like to be remembered by.
Mark Roy, founder of The Bereavement Register said: “The top 20 really shows how far we have come in terms of saying good-bye.
“Gone are the dirges of yore, instead we are seeing contemporary music that is easier to relate to.
“Everyone has a favourite song that means something very special to them, often connected to a particular time and place. When the song is played this can be a very emotive reminder of that person and a reassurance in our time of grief”.
Richard Thompson, chairman of Merlin Elite, a music and entertainment management company added: “Music plays an important part in people’s lives and emotions, many of our memories can be connected though songs – that special place at a special time.
“Often the choice of song relates to its title rather than the lyrics. Goodbye My Lover is an example of this.
“Working with a number of successful artists that cover many music genres including, rock, pop, classical, funk and jazz, it comes as no surprise that the top 20 reflects this”.
    The full top 20

1 Goodbye My Lover James Blunt

    LATEST SHOWBIZ GOSSIP!

PETE & KATE... IRISH LOVE TRIP!!

    By Tina Calder

IT WAS all about... Babyshambles this week as Pete Doherty and Kate Moss partied in Carlow and Dublin.
And in support of her boyfriend Kate joined Pete on-stage in Carlow and even sang a duet sparking rumours the pair are set to record together early next year.
Then when it came to Belfast and Waterford on Wednesday and Thursday Kate was nowhere to be seen.
And all week Pete, who returned to the stage after a stint at rehab was looking, sounding and performing at his best ever.
Reports this week claimed the singer was seen buying syringes in Dublin but fans are hitting back hard claiming there is no way he could have performed so well if he was back on the drugs.
Ryan McDermot, who was at three gigs this week said: “I’ve seen Pete about eight times and there’s no way he was out of his head at any of the gigs.
“You can tell when he’s off his head because he can’t sing properly and usually makes a real mess of the gig.
“This time it was different, he was really giving it everything, this time he cared about the fans”.
According to one source on the tour Pete even said his Irish gigs were the first shows he has enjoyed in over a year.
He told the insider: “I have really missed that buzz of the live audience you get when you first go out on stage.
“These crowds have been amazing, thank god we came to Ireland first”.
The reaction from the crowds were so good promoters are currently considering bringing the band back to Ireland in early 2007.

THE new round of recruitment for I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out of here has kicked off again with rumours of the show’s executives attempting to get Myleene Klass on board for the third year running.
And according to show insiders the producers are desperate to get an Irish comedian on board in the hope of reviving the dwindling figures.
Apparently names such as Ardal O’Hanlon, Ed Byrne and Tommy Tiernan have all been suggested in planning meetings and bosses reckon bagging an Irish comic could be the answer to their prayers.

MUSICIAN and RTE presenter Tom Dunne is launching a new series going behind the scenes with Ireland’s wealth of songwriters.
The series This Note’s For You begins next Thursday October 12 on RTE and features Paul Brady, Neil Hannon and Damien Dempsey.
And according to producers the programme’s set to explode many of the myths of songwriting and sees artists such as Tim Wheeler from Ash and Gemma Hayes discuss what it’s really like when the inspiration dries up.

Jason Byrne is in Belfast this month for the 3rd year in a row at the Amnesty International Stand Up For Justice gig at the Whitla Hall.
He will be joined by BBC NI’s Tim McGarry, Neil Delamere and comedian Jake O’Kane for the event on November 1.
And according to Jason he can’t wait to get back to the festival.
He said: “Playing Belfast is always great and the Queen’s Festival has an amazing line-up and once again it will be a night of partying.”

IRISH comedian Ed Byrne has revealed how he gets rid of hecklers during his show.
The funnyman says he has a plan and it always involves making friends with the bouncers.
He said: “I have an agreement with the security staff of my gigs, if there is a heckler I will try and handle them myself by basically taking the piss but when I’m bored and want rid of them I simply say ‘right I’ve had enough of you now’ and they get chucked out by a big burly bouncer”.

WHILE the Undertones carry on without him it seems Feargal Sharkey is keeping himself busy with things behind the scenes in the music industry.
The singer will be appearing at a Northern Ireland Music Industry Commission music business event next week.

BRITISH comedian Alan Carr better watch out Bob Geldof is on the war path. Earlier this week he said he would like to go to Bob’s house and slap Peaches.
And while Peaches has been running riot and causing mayhem everywhere she goes Bob says at the end of the day she’s his daughter and he will defend her.
Although according to a source close to the Live Aid campaigner Bob reckons he’s not needed because “Peaches is very capable of handling herself, she get that from her mum”.
